Each month Fatima Johnson, Brightlane’s Community Engagement & Education Strategist, will be sharing some educational information and resources as we continue to learn together. This month she is helping us explore Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
National Domestic Violence Awareness Month was established by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence to shine a light on the impact of abuse, particularly against women and children. In 1989, Congress officially designated October as a month of recognition and action. This month serves not only to raise awareness of the violence experienced by children and adults, but also to honor the lives lost to domestic violence, celebrate the strength of survivors, and educate communities on the many forms abuse can take and how we can support those affected.
