Let’s Learn Together: International Youth Day

Blog

Each month Fatima Johnson, Brightlane’s Community Engagement & Education Strategist, will be sharing some educational information and resources as we continue to learn together. This month she is helping us explore International Youth Day.

August 12th is International Youth Day, a day dedicated to celebrating young people and recognizing their contributions to our global society. The idea for this day came from youth who attended the World Youth Forum of the United Nations, which was held in Vienna, Austria in 1991. The forum’s recommendation was formally adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1999 establishing International Youth Day to raise awareness and support for programs focused on improving youth outcomes around the world.

In 2015, the day’s focus evolved to encourage youth to promote peace, fight extremism, and act as partners in global initiatives. In honor of International Youth Day, let’s commit to doing our part to uplift the young people in our communities. Below are some resources to assist you.
