Each month Fatima Johnson, Brightlane’s Community Engagement & Diversity Strategist, will be sharing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion insight as we continue to learn together. This month she is helping us explore Women’s History Month.
Women’s History Month began as “Women’s History Week” in 1978 because of the actions of the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women to encourage recognition of the contributions of women in the United States. In 1987, Congress designated March as Women’s History Month. Each year, a theme is selected as the focus for the month. This year’s theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations.”
We invite you to celebrate this month by learning about the contributions of women who have been instrumental in shaping our nation and change makers of today as we all work to move forward together. Below are resources to assist you in learning about the significance of Women’s History Month and some of the women who have shaped history.
